Our Staff and Guides

John Wady has worked as an outdoor instructor since 1997, in many different locations, from the south of France up to Iceland, with a particular personal passion for sea cliff rock climbing. John is a hands-on instructor who has worked with a a wide range of groups, including blind, deaf, and physically or mentally impaired groups in a mountain environment. His qualifications include SPA climbing and Mountain Leader award and he has experience of ice climbing in the French Alps and Iceland.

Craig Palmer is an ex Royal Marine who has over 17 years of outdoor leadership experience gained from both active service in the Royal Marines and within the outdoor leisure industry. Craig has extensive Mountaineering qualifications and is an active member of the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team and during the winter months, provides the snow and ice condition reports on Helvellyn for Weatherline on behalf of the Lake District National Park. Craig has recently filled the post of Technical Director for Mountain Adventures.

Dave Atherton has 20 years outdoor leadership experience gained from active service in the Army and within the outdoor industry and is an International Mountain Leader. Dave also holds the Winter Mountain Leader award and his International leadership ranges from the Arctic to the Antarctic, including the Alps, the Himalayas, Scandinavia, South & North America and Africa. He is based in the Lake District and is also a full member of Kendal Mountain Rescue Team.

Mike Lates is based on the Isle of Skye and started guiding in 1995. He has developed an unrivalled reputation for providing Cuillin outings of the highest quality. Teaching climbing skills is Mike’s forte. Mike is currently rewriting the Cuillin section of the guidebook to rock and ice climbs on Skye for the Scottish Mountaineering Club. Very few people have ever had such an intimate knowledge of the Cuillin. Abroad Mike favours the High Tatra mountains in Slovakia. No helicopters, no bolts and resembling an oversized Cuillin it is home from home. He is an experienced ice climber with many ascents including the Matterhorn and Eiger.

Tim Mosedale has been rock climbing and mountaineering for 20 years and holds the MIA, the Winter Mountain Leader Award and a Wilderness First Aid Certificate. Tim is a seasoned all round mountaineer and has lead over 20 expeditions to Nepal and India and has over 50 first ascents under his belt in Greenland. He also runs an annual trip to a 22,000ft mountain in the Everest region of Nepal and has summited both Everest and Cho Oyu.

Chris Walker is a passionate and active climber and mountaineer who is based in the Lake District. His personal and professional aspirations have so far taken him as far afield as Spain, the European Alps, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet and South America. He is an M.I.C Trainee and is also a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and member of the British Alpine Club. In-between trips to the Himalayas and beyond, Chris is based in Keswick and has developed a wide experience of mountaineering throughout the U.K.

Brian Jackson is our man on the ground in Snowdonia providing outdoor instruction and training preparation weekends in support of our challenge events. He also provides us with a fitness training consultancy service and has expert local knowledge of the mountains in Wales. Brian organizes our Welsh 3000 Footers Challenge event which involves climbing the fifteen 3000ft mountains in Snowdonia over a 2 or 3 day period. This is an excellent and very demanding mountain event over a distance of 26 miles with a total ascent of over 13000ft.

Tony Holliday is renowned for his meticulous planning and organizational skills and is involved hands-on in all aspects of our operations. A highly resourceful and determined character, Tony is an expert logistics man detailed with the responsibility for operational support and task management. He has also travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America and has trekking and mountain walking experience in the Lake District, Scottish Highlands, Dolomites, Slovenia, Canada and North West USA.

Mark Cohen is our Physio Specialist and Training Consultant who provides invaluable knowledge and support on our larger outdoor challenge events. Mark is a real benefit when working with larger size groups often of variable ability, and he can work wonders on aching muscles whilst we are in transit. Equipped with his familiar kit bag including sprays, ice packs and Ultrasound machine, He is an expert in his field and can make that all important judgement call which may be necessary to prevent injury.

Klemen Volontar is a highly experienced mountaineer and runs our operations in Slovenia. Klemen has been a member of his country's Mountain Rescue Association since 1984 and is an experienced rescue dog handler and avalanche specialist. He was also a member of one of the first expeditions on Lofoten island - Norway (1980) and has visited the mountains of Hoggar (Ahagar) in Algerian desert (1983), East Germany and the Czech Republic (1984). He also has extensive experience in the Alps and guided an expedition to Aconcaqua (1995) and has guided in Nepal every year since 2000.
